Sister Pat Hudson’s painting, “Evening Song”, was selected as “Best in Show” watercolor in a current juried show at the Rockaway Artists Alliance Gallery at Fort Tilden.
Pat has two other paintings that were also selected for the “Art Splash” show.
The watercolor method Pat used is Sum-i: P’oMo, an ancient Chinese painting technique. It is watercolor on gold Shikishi board (imported). A pure pigment is applied to a damp surface. The colors move and mix themselves. Tilting the board invites the paints to flow freely and combine colors creating an abstract and spontaneous painting. Sometimes the artist chooses to add defining designs using gouache after the water color painting has dried.
The show runs from September 13 to October 18 on Saturdays and Sundays.
