Reflection
To keep God’s word implies not only hearing it but receiving it and acting on it. It means that we absorb its essence and are transformed by its meaning. We not only hear it but are willing to let our lives be turned over and made fertile like soil which receives seed and brings it to growth. God’s word germinates life in us and brings us to spiritual growth. Springtime is a reminder that life flourishes, bears fruit and then nourishes others. We are called to be the fertile earth in which the seed of God’s word takes root and grows.
Prayer
Send me your Spirit, O God, that I may hear your word and keep it.
Action
Take a section of Scripture each day and probe its meaning. How can it enable your growth in spirit?

Thus says the Lord:
Just as from the heavens
the rain and snow come down
And do not return there
till they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
Giving seed to the one who sows
and bread to the one who eats,
So shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth;
It shall not return to me void,
but shall do my will,
achieving the end for which I sent it.
