The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
Advent stirs our hearts to possibility. The words of hope rise from the quiet and darkness. The impossible can become possible. It is a time to grasp the moment, to listen anew, to renew our belief that things can change, that we can change. Enmity and violence are not necessarily the norm. Love and community are possible. Perhaps not everywhere at once, but at least here, now, for us.
May I have the courage to make change begin with me.
What small steps can you take to make the impossible possible even in one way in your own life, among your own daily circle?
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just.
Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.
Stay faithful in things large and taking on the world, but stay faithful in those things small – because remember it’s the small things, the size of a mustard seed, that ultimately moves mountains.
There is no power greater for change than a community discovering what it cares about.
There is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we are brave enough to be it.
We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.
The older I get, the more I’m conscious of ways very small things can make a change in the world. Tiny little things, but the world is made up of tiny matters, isn’t it?
When you see something that is not just, not fair, or not right, you have to do something. You have to say something. Make a little noise. It’s time for us to get into good trouble, necessary trouble.
Don’t expect change to happen overnight, even if it’s not always visible it’s making more impact than you think.
