The Sisters of St. Joseph Guild
Sixty-eight years ago, in 1957, family members and friends of the Sisters of St. Joseph came together to form the Sisters of St. Joseph Guild. Inspired by the congregation’s mission and eager to support its many ministries, members of the Guild in the 1950s and 1960s tirelessly raised funds for building projects on the Brentwood campus. Brentwood College, Our Lady of Grace Juniorate, and Maria Regina were all financed in part by the efforts of Guild members. In later years, as the needs of the congregation changed, their efforts were dedicated to the care of our retired Sisters.
Today, three buildings in Brentwood stand in tribute to the Sisters of St. Joseph Guild. Brentwood College, now known as La Providencia, is home to our spirituality programs, The CSJ Learning Connection — our English language literacy program for women
— and the CSJ Refugee Resettlement Program. At Our Lady of Grace Juniorate, three vibrant programs — Long Island Immigration Clinic, Shepherd’s Gate Academy, and New Hour for Women and Children — meet the needs of immigrants, justice-involved women, and young children. Maria Regina Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, under the administration of Optima Care, continues to provide the highest quality of care to our Sisters, along with women and men from across Long Island.
The visionaries who created the Sisters of St. Joseph Guild understood the work of fundraising. They built lasting relationships with donors and invited their engagement in the dynamic CSJ mission. Predecessors of today’s Office of Mission Advancement, their excellence, creativity, and commitment to the congregation continue to inspire.
