
St. Phoebe Day Celebration

Join the Sisters of St. Joseph for an afternoon of prayer and learning on the day our church commemorates St. Phoebe the Deacon. Together, we will celebrate women’s gifts and contributions to the church, and bear witness to the critical and urgent need to rethink women’s participation in the church.
Light refreshments will be served. This event will also be livestreamed.
Speaker: Dr. Phyllis Zagano
Phyllis Zagano, Ph.D., the acknowledged expert on question of women deacons and a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, is the winner of two Fulbright awards and author or editor of 26 books. She has taught at Fordham, Boston, and Yale Universities and presently holds a research appointment at Hofstra University. Dr. Zagano’s published books include such titles as:
- “Women Deacons?: Essays with Answers”
- “Women in Ministry: Emerging Questions about the Diaconate”
- “Ordination of Women to the Diaconate in the Eastern Churches”
- “Holy Saturday: An Argument for the Restoration of the Female Diaconate in the Catholic Church”
