Reflection

In every age God is revealed in new ways. God inspires us to connect new insights and knowledge with a spirituality for our time. In this millennium when past paradigms are no longer adequate for the realities of today, we are offered a new understanding.  The God of our Universe Story enables us to see that we can reach beyond space and time to be one with our sisters and brothers and with the entire universe in healing ways.  Our new understanding of the story of how all came to be enables us to see new ways of imaging God. The realization that the universe is all one emerging from one Creative Source impels us to an inclusive loving bond with all creation.

The earth is God’s, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it.
Psalm 24:1

The beginning of the world is not the work of chaos that owes its origin to another, but derives directly from a supreme Origin that creates out of love. The Big Bang, which nowadays is posited as the origin of the world, does not contradict the divine act of creating, but rather requires it. The evolution of nature does not contrast with the notion of Creation, as evolution presupposes the creation of beings that evolve.
Pope Francis

We contain the universe within our deepest selves and are one with it.
Karl Rahner

The very existence of the universe points to God.  Creation exists because God exists.  God is uncreated but co-inheres in created being.  God is the unlimited depth of love of all that is, a love that overflows into new life.  God is love, and love is the energy that makes everything precious and alive. … Love transforms because love unites.
Ilia Delio

Today’s mysticism begins when the totally transcendent image of God above or beneath or separate is replaced with a deepening sense of a universe immersed in and permeated by God’s loving presence active in all places¸ at all times, and in every human being and the rest of creation that ever existed.  We are at a point of birthing a new image of God rather than trying to fit our old image of God into the new universe story.
Richard Rohr

My deepest me is God.
St. Catherine of Genoa

At the deepest level of consciousness divisions disappear. … Our inner depths are as wide as the love we allow to flow through us.
Barbara Fiand

There is no inner world without the outer world.
Thomas Berry

We have thought about God as somehow above us, with us, close to us, but distinct from us.  We express this separation in our language of heaven and earth or when we say we long to be with God or that when we die we will go to God.  This transcendent image of God does not fit with what we are beginning to know about the physical universe.  What we can say of God cannot contradict the evolutionary universe in which we live.
 Ilia Delio
