Reflection

Jesus is the perfect teacher in that he does not base his claims only on what he says but also on how he lives. He models his lesson; he shows us the way to walk the path of truth and holiness. He anoints us with his power to live the gospel with joy and to be his witnesses in the world. We are to be doers of God’s word not merely forgetful hearers. The word must come to life in us. The word of God is meant to be life and power to those who believe.

Prayer

May be a doer of the word, and not a hearer only.

Action

Try to live so that the gospel may be made visible to others.

Saints and martyrs are famous for testifying to the truth about Jesus Christ while their enemies set them on fire, but each day ordinary Christians experience small martyrdoms when they blow the whistle on a dangerous product, or lose a friend they had to confront, or stand up in a small group and, for the first time in their lives, say to a group of strangers, “My name is Maxine, and I am an alcoholic.”
