Who do you say that I am ?
Matthew 16:13-19

It is a compelling question. We all ask it. You say that you love me but do you really know who I am?  It goes to the heart of relationship; it goes to the heart of our understanding of ourselves; it goes to the heart of how we lead our lives; to the heart of the relationships we have and to the heart of the very motives which drive our lives and our decisions. We have read the scriptures and heard innumerable homilies preached about Jesus. However, if we were to be asked that question, what would we answer?

Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.
Mark 9:24

Ponder your answer to the question, not from the usual response, but from within your own mind and heart.

still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

We might be wise to follow the insight of the enraptured heart rather than the more cautious reasoning of the theological mind.

If Jesus Christ were to come today people would not even crucify him.  They would ask him to dinner, and hear what he has to say, and make fun of it.

Our problem is this: we usually discover him within some denominational or Christian ghetto. We meet him in a province and, having caught some little view, we paint him in smaller strokes. The Lion of Judah is reduced to something kittenish because our understanding cannot, at first, write larger definitions.
Calvin Miller

Christianity is not a doctrine, not truth as truth, but the knowledge of a Person; it is knowing the Lord Jesus. You cannot be educated into being a Christian.
