As we move into the final weeks of Lent, we ponder Jesus’ prophetic response to his society, his witness to truth, and his steadfast adherence to what he recognized as the essence of God’s reign on earth. His criticism of the powers in his society became more strident. He surely understood where his words and actions were leading. Yet, his prophetic life made him willing to accept death as the price of truth. If we honestly believe that, as followers of Jesus, the Spirit is calling us to live as prophetic witnesses to God’s reign on this earth, how do we compare with the stance of Jesus?

Send forth your Spirit, O God, and renew the face of the earth.

Reflect on the question above. Compare it with the situations against which Jesus raised his voice?
