Reflection
As we mature spiritually, we realize that prayer involves a wrestling with our concept of God. The comfortable God of our beginnings has been replaced by a Holy Mystery that stretches our souls. With our present insights into the nature of the universe, to say the old familiar words ”God is everywhere” has a new meaning. To say God is love is an all embracing challenge. With Moses we seek the name of God and the answer comes: “I am who am.” Slowly we grow into the realization that, indeed, we stand on holy ground.
Prayer

Psalm 9.

I keep the Lord always before me. . .Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices…You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Prayer is not a discourse. It is a form of life, the life with God. That is why it is not confined to the moment of verbal statement.

You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.
Thomas Merton
All men upon this Planet, irrespective of color or belief, have but one mission to perform and that mission is to know God.

We must alter our lives in order to alter our hearts, for it is impossible to live one way and pray another.
William Law
Always respond to every impulse to pray. The impulse to pray may come when you are reading or when you are battling with a text. I would make an absolute law of this – always obey such an impulse.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones
This is our Lord’s will… that our prayer and our trust be, alike, large.

If we remember the sacred we will find our self in a world as whole as it is holy. This is not a world that sustains our models of economic growth and consumer desires. This is rather a world of wonder and magic, and a world that needs our attention—that needs to be sustained as much as it sustains us, sustains our souls as well as our bodies. But first we need to make this shift in consciousness, to see the earth with new eyes.
