Reflection

Spirituality is an awareness that we long to reach a dimension beyond ourselves. It is a desire to know the Incomprehensible Mystery that we believe exists and is in contact with us in a loving relationship, the Mystery we call God. The deep longing buried in each of us pulls us toward a journey of search for this Being.  As Christians, we base our spiritual journey in the life of Jesus who imaged this Holy Mystery for us.

 Prayer

My soul thirsts for the living God.

Action

Recognize this desire in yourself and follow where it leads you.

As the deer longs for the running waters,
so my soul longs for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, the living God.
When shall I go and behold the face of God?
Psalm 42:2-3

But if you seek your God, you will find God, if you look for God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 4:9

I am the utter poverty of God. I am His emptiness, littleness,
nothingness, lostness. When this is understood, my life in God’s freedom,
the self-emptying of God in me is the fullness of grace. A love for God
that knows no reason because God is the fullness of grace. A love for God
that knows no reason because God is God; a love without measure, a love for
God as personal.
Thomas Merton

Spiritual desire is the experience of God’s presence in us or it may be the absence of God as well, since a feeling of absence may stimulate a yearning for God. It is the experience of delightful love and fearful emptiness.
Ilia Delio

Spirituality is understood to be an innate wisdom of the human heart that enlivens a zest for life, a search for meaning and purpose, a love for all that is good and beautiful, a passion to create a better world, a sensitivity to God that permeates the entire cosmos.
Diarmuid O’Murchu

The quest for the living God has been and continues to be a perennial activity of the human spirit.
Elizabeth Johnson

The true mystic is always both humble and compassionate, for she knows that she does not know.
Richard Rohr

We have separated matter and spirit and through the power of this collective attitude have starved the world.
