Sister Jane Marie Dinsmore

With gratitude to God we come together to celebrate the joyful and faith-filled life of Sister Jane Dinsmore, formerly Sister Thomas Loretto, a Sister of St. Joseph for 73 wonderful years.  A special welcome to Jane’s faithful and supportive Party of 1952.  You are and always will be special to each other.

Jane would want heartfelt words of gratitude expressed for the extraordinary care she received daily from the nursing staff, aides, housekeepers, physical therapy team, recreation team, and Administration.  God had blessed her abundantly, and she never took those graces for granted as she blew a kiss and offered a gentle smile with a whimsical prayer of thanks.

Jane’s life story began in Queens.  She, her sister Caroline, and her brothers Joseph and Robert, children of Thomas and Helen, had what Jane called an idyllic childhood wrapped in love.  Jane graduated from Stella Maris High School and worked as a stenographer for 3 years in Equitable Life, treasuring every word she heard and wrote, as she stated.  During those years, Jane discerned the call to religious life under the guidance of her aunt, Sister Leontia.

In 1952, Jane entered and began what she often described as a glorious life of service that brought her closer to the heart of God.  After teaching at the elementary school level for 15 years, Jane, having earned a BA in Business from St. John’s University and a Master’s degree in Business from Hunter College, taught business classes at St. Pascal Baylon High School for six years.

It wasn’t long before the community, recognizing Jane’s business acumen and skill that she was missioned to our CSJ Finance Office.  For the next 35 years, Jane served our sisters and our employees with graciousness, dignity and loving openness to whatever need arose.  She wore many hats ~ Finance, HR and Counselor! Her compassionate, friendly manner and sensitivity to the struggles of our employees offered guidance and a pathway to a hope-filled future.  Kindness was her hallmark.

Upon retirement Jane lived life to the fullest, relishing all opportunities for prayer, on-going education, and fun-filled times!  Her final days were peace-filled and totally God centered.  She was called home quietly, embraced in loving tenderness.   And today, we celebrate Jane’s life of humble, faithful, and compassionate service as a Sister of St. Joseph for 73 beautiful years.May she rest in peace and continue to bless us all.

Sister Jane Marie Dinsmore, the former Sister Thomas Loretto, died on September 17, 2025 in the 74th year of her religious life.
