Sister Marcella Catherine Purpura, CSJ
Sister Marcella entered the congregation in 1952. She was a ‘wisdom figure’ to the Sisters of St. Joseph in her various ministries of education, nursing, spirituality and prayer. She was also a past Coordinator of St. Joseph Convent, Brentwood. Marcie studied nursing with the Nursing Sisters and became an excellent head nurse during her many years in healthcare. She lived her 68 years of religious life with a deep faith in God, love of family and community, in a spirit of joy, gentleness and caring, as she reached out to all God’s people in love.
We honor the life Marcie lived. She was greatly devoted to Our Blessed Mother Mary. She was instrumental in leading pilgrims to Medjugorje where she shared her own deep faith as well as helping others to develop their own love of the Blessed Mother. She loved spending time with her family and reveled in the many celebrations at Breezy. Her life was also marked by her devotion to community and to nursing. Her compassionate care for her patients was outstanding and long remembered by those she served and their families
We remember that Marcie lived her 85 years as an example to each and every person she met; she taught that love is an action – and the practice of giving ourselves to others is the truest way to honor God. During her time here on earth, including her 68 years in the Congregation, we count ourselves blest by the sacrament of her life – and for this we are grateful.
Sister Marcella Catherine Purpura, CSJ died on April 11, 2020 in the 68th year of her religious life.
