Legislative Action on Immigration
Sisters Nancy Fackner, Kathy Britt and Rosalie Carven represented the Sisters of St. Joseph in partnership with the coalition of immigrant advocates who went to the meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature on October 7, 2014. Of all the counties in New York State, Suffolk County has received the third largest number of unaccompanied children. Advocates spoke eloquently of the faith, compassion and decency that should characterize our response to children in need. Suffolk County should declare itself a welcoming community and address the needs of these children. The not-for-profit community service agencies stand ready to partner with Suffolk County to ensure that educational, health and legal services are accessible. Sisters of St. Joseph are actively involved in this effort.
