At our March 10th Assembly we discussed plans about constructing two alternative waste management systems on our Brentwood property to replace the ones now in use. One would modernize the system in the motherhouse complex and one would be for the Maria Regina Skilled Nursing Facility. These systems would reduce the quantity of nitrogen and other nutrients entering our groundwater. We applied for a $200,000 grant from Suffolk County’s Water Quality Protection and Restoration Program to partially fund these projects. We have been notified that the Congregation has been awarded the full $200,000 to support the initial engineering design phase of our project. We are grateful to Sister Karen Burke, CSJ, Coordinator of Land Initiatives, and our Grants Coordinator, Alisha Delisle, for their work on this as well as to the many county officials who gave their support.
