“Racism and Restorative Justice in Catholic Institutions”

Join on Saturday, October 10 from 2-3:30 pm ET/1-2:30 pm CT/12-1:30 pm MT/11 am-12:30 pm PT for our next restorative justice workshop: “Racism and Restorative Justice in Catholic Institutions.” We are honored to have two amazing speakers joining us, Dr. Shannen Dee Williams, a professor at Villanova University and a featured writer in Journal of African American History, American Catholic Studies, America Magazine, the National Catholic Reporter, the Catholic News Service, and Religion Dispatches. Sr. Melinda Pellerin, a Sister of St. Joseph of Springfield, will also be speaking and sharing her experience as the only black vowed member of her congregation. Sr. Melinda is currently a Pastoral Minister at Holy Name Parish in Springfield and prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, was a Chaplin at the Women’s Jail in Chicopee, Mass. She is also a former Teacher of the Year for the state of Massachusetts.

This workshop will discuss racism within our communities, historical truth telling, and practical reparations necessary to move forward. It will also discuss antiracism work within the Charism and leave time for questions and discussion. Attendees will leave with a concrete and historically informed plan of action.

Please consider inviting those in your circles, ministries, and partners in mission, as all are welcome to this workshop. We’d specifically like to invite students and alumni from sponsored institutions. Our speakers are especially encouraging students and alumni to join in the discussion at this workshop. Please reach out if you have names of individuals we can reach out to who could best facilitate this connection. For those who are financially able, we are asking for a suggested donation of $10/workshop to support our speakers and technology upgrades required to make this series happen. Students and staff from ACSSJ schools and St. Joseph Workers are always free. Additionally, if your ministry or institution would like to financially sponsor this restorative justice series please reach out to us at info@cssjfed.org or fill out this form. There is no minimum amount to sponsor.
