Sister Jane Fritz Publishes Innovative Book
Sister Jane Fritz and her colleague, William Mc Allister, have written a textbook which uses an innovative teaching technique, intended for beginning computer programmers. It incorporates game programming as a pedagogical tool to improve student engagement, learning outcomes and retention. This approach teaches the fundamental programming concepts in a way that does not compromise the material traditionally taught in an introductory or even more advanced course, but presents it in such a way that lecture-based classes are replaced with an engaging interactive learning environment and students’ frowns are changed to smiles as they admire their own creative achievements. The book entitled, Programming Fundamentals Using Java: A Game Application Approach was published by Mercury Learning and Information in August and will soon be available through Amazon.com.
