SHA Honors S. Regina Coll

Sister Regina Coll honored for her participation in the March on Selma

Regina CollFifty years after S. Regina Coll marched in Selma, her legacy was honored at Sacred Heart Academy. Sister Regina was a math teacher at Sacred Heart Academy when she and Sister Alice Meehan (deceased) went to Selma to support Dr. King’s march for civil rights. They went with the support of the Sisters in their congregation but were subject to criticism from those in the Catholic community who did not approve of their action. Sacred Heart Academy dedicated its Peace and Justice Center to S. Regina in appreciation for  her courage and example. This was done at a school assembly on September 11, 2015 at which Sister Regina spoke with the students and encouraged them to be active in changing the world for the better.
