Reflection
The longing for love that is in each of us exists in the very nature of the universe. It is the movement of all creation toward union and relationship. If we could realize that what is such a deep need in each of us is also the same need in all beings what a difference it would make in our fractured world. We would look at trees, animals and into the eyes of another with a different perspective. We would remember the oneness from which we all have come. Perhaps the reality of our unity could begin to replace the divisions we have created.

John 1: 4-16

Love is our most unifying and empowering common spiritual denominator. The more we ignore its potential to bring greater balance and deeper meaning to human existence, the more likely we are to continue to define history as one long inglorious record of man’s inhumanity to man.

But, on the other hand, everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe—a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.

Love all God’s creation, both the whole and every grain of sand. Love every leaf, every ray of light. Love the animals, love the plants, love each separate thing. If thou love each thing thou wilt perceive the mystery of God in all; and when once thou perceive this, thou wilt thenceforward grow every day to a fuller understanding of it: until thou come at last to love the whole world with a love that will then be all-embracing and universal.
Fyodor Dostoyevsky
When one has once fully entered the realm of love, the world – no matter how imperfect – becomes rich and beautiful, it consists solely of opportunities for love.
