If the universe is indeed a love story, then we can no longer tell this story as if divinity and humanity are opposed to each other. God belongs fundamentally to the universe, not to the human person alone. The very existence of the universe points to God. Creation exists because God exists. God is uncreated but co-inheres in created being. God is the unlimited depth of love of all that is, a love that overflows into new life. God is love, and love is the energy that makes everything precious and alive. … Love transforms because love unites.
The universe reflects your glory, O God. You reveal its secrets
to the wise and simple.
What is your image of God? As you reflect on the vastness of the universe and the smallness of earth in this amazing reality how does it impact on the creation story of Genesis? Analyze it all in the light of our present knowledge.
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are God’s judgments and how inscrutable God’s ways!
For who has known the mind of the God,
Or who has been God’s counselor?
For from God and through God and to God are all things.
To God be glory forever.
The universe is the primary revelation of the divine, the primary scripture, the primary locus of divine-human communication.
To live God’s Universe Story is to participate in a large love. We need to be mystics, not moralists. We cannot wait for things to be perfect to fall in love with them, or we will never love anything. Once we accept that we are part of creation evolving, that we are evolving personally, then we are free to love the imperfect. We can love everyone and everything.
God pours God’s self out and the pouring out is creation. … We cannot separate God from the cosmos. Creation is the beloved of God, and the becoming of God in love. God is not conceivable except insofar as God coincides with evolution. … Evolution is essential to our understanding of God and God’s relationship to the world and our relationship to the world.
In the Universe Story the person becomes open to the universe. There is in the world and in the universe a ground of unity in which all things communicate.
The universe is an inexhaustible celebration of ultimate mystery!
At the deepest level of consciousness divisions disappear. … Our inner depths are as wide as the love we allow to flow through us.
My deepest me is God.
St. Catherine of Genoa.
Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe – a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.
