Reflection
Daily we find ourselves in a society of activity, noise and motion. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed and long for a moment of quiet breath. We need space and a little respite to be still. To be still is to seek a serenity, a calm, a tranquility of being separated from commotion or agitation. In these moments of stillness we can touch into our inner selves and open ourselves to God’s presence within and without. We exchange our usual business, noise and activity for a receptive silence and quiet. In those moments we become aware of a Oneness beyond ourselves. We realize we are immersed in a cosmic Wholeness. We become reconnected and our perspective returns.

Grant me a stillness of seeing, O God.

Grant me a calmness of hearing,
Let…my words and my actions

Let my passions or life…
Be grounded in the experience of your stillness.

Nothing in all creation is so like God as stillness.

Let us be silent, that we may hear the whisper of God.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The point is that when I see a sunset or a waterfall or something, for a split second it’s so great, because for a little bit I’m out of my brain, and it’s got nothing to do with me. I’m not trying to figure it out, you know what I mean? And I wonder if I can somehow find a way to maintain that mind stillness.
Chris Evans
To know yourself as the Being underneath the thinker, the stillness underneath the mental noise, the love and joy underneath the pain, is freedom, salvation, enlightenment.
