Discipleship means that we live to give God glory by loving the world and everything in it. This is what God does in Christ; this is what we do as followers.
Let me see with the eyes of grace.
What does it mean to me to be called to discipleship? How do I define it?
A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but they who do the will of God will enter.
Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.
Whatsoever one would understand what he hears must hasten to put into practice what he has heard.
Gregory the Great
Do not scrutinize so closely whether you are doing much or little, ill or well, so long as what you do is not sinful and that you are heartily seeking to do everything for God. Try as far as you can to do everything well, but when it is done, do not think about it. Try, rather, to think of what is to be done next. Go on simply in the Lord’s way, and do not torment yourself. We ought to hate our faults, but with a quiet, calm hatred; not pettishly and anxiously.
Francis de Sales
The strength of a man’s virtue should not be measured by his special exertions, but by his habitual acts.
Discipleship is the process of becoming who Jesus would be if he were you.
Those who teach by their doctrine must teach by their life, or else they pull down with one hand what they build up with the other.
Christ did not appoint professors, but followers. If Christianity … is not reduplicated in the life of the person expounding it, then he does not expound Christianity, for Christianity is a message about living and can only be expounded by being realized in men’s lives.
Whatever God’s dream about man may be, it seems certain it cannot come true unless man cooperates.
Stella Terrill Man
Jesus sowed good seeds into the lives of the people He touched. His walk was humble, meek, giving, and forgiving, and He taught His disciples to be the same way.
The one indispensable requirement for producing godly, mature Christians is godly, mature Christians.
Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.
