Sister Esther Mary De Rosa, CSJ
Jun 13, 2014
Today we celebrate the life of Esther Mary De Rosa, a Sister of St. Joseph for nearly sixty-six years. Esther knew her God and that influenced everything she did. In all of her endeavors Esther reflected a deep faith and joy in knowing the power of God’s love in her life.
Rsther earned a BA at St. Francis College and an MA in Theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary. As a teacher she brought her love of learning to her students as they learned science and so much more from Esther. She pursued multiple opportunities to study science and religion helping others to understand the deep connectedness of all life. Esther was attuned to how relationships generate new patterns of love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness.
She welcomed gatherings and celebrations with her family, her dear sister Camille, Aunt Millie, her niece Gerry and her beloved cousins which always included gifts and plenty of food. Being with people and bringing delight into the ordinary permeated Esther’s life as she taught, worked in our finance office or simply drove sisters where they needed to go, providing a little detour to add enjoyment.
We all know that Esther’s love and devotion to her sister Camille was central in her life. She companioned her through all of life’s changes and this liturgy is the one Esther prepared for Camille. How appropriate that she share in it as well knowing, as we will read in today’s gospel that Jesus told his disciples and us that he was going to prepare a place for us. Esther, as you share in the fullness of joy and peace we know that we are all still connected to you and you will continue to influence our lives with your simple joy and welcoming spirit.
Sister Esther Mary de Rosa, CSJ died on June 13, 2014 in the 66th year of her religious life.
