Reflection

We who are alive today are agents of ongoing creation.
We are the consciousness of Earth:
the universe knowing itself, singing to itself.

We who are alive today are prophets of a new way, tellers of a new story
where God dwells not on some heavenly throne
but in every breath of living things.

We are made of stardust and clay, mineral and meteor dust.
We are the Infinite Wave concentrated into finite particles,
light years compressed into the speck of a lifetime.
We are Divinity breathing Itself into the world –
the Source enfleshed in marrow and bone.

We who are alive today are creating tomorrow
with our thoughts and words.
We are shaping ourselves and our cultures
by what we do and fail to do.
Justice and mercy are the works of our hands.

They never told us it would be like this:
that we were vessels of the Great One
called to create,
called to BE in the God we want to see in the world.

Let us sing out
that the heaven we sought
is within and around us.
That wherever we look,
We find the Holy One looking back.

And let us not lose heart
no matter what storms batter and buffet us.
For we are One with life
and Life holds us firmly in the palm of Its Hand.

Excerpts from Jan Phillips
