It is increasingly obvious that this country is rapidly dividing itself into camps of distrust, division, instability, and subliminal rage. Sadly, it also seems that we are becoming conditioned to senseless violence. Meanwhile, rather than address the issues, this country is being crippled with petty partisan politics. Why do organizations whose values ultimately enable violence have such power over elected officials? Can money buy integrity so easily? As the divisions widen and the hate speech intensifies, do we wonder why we accept this deterioration so quietly? Why are those who spew hate and ignorance given public prominence? Where are those who remind us of who we are? Where is our unity of purpose? Why are we still so stuck in our old prejudices? ”If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.” How far must things go before we acknowledge what is happening?
Give us the wisdom and courage to act for unity and peace.
Look back and trace all the incidents of violence that have happened in the past several years. Think of the incidents labeled as “hate crimes”. What can you do in your conversations, your attitudes, and with your vote to work toward a more healthy nation?
The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
One individual can begin a movement that turns the tide of history. Martin Luther King in the civil rights movement, Mohandas Gandhi in India, Nelson Mandela in South Africa are examples of people standing up with courage and non-violence to bring about needed changes.
Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.
Thomas A. Edison
At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Non-violence requires a double faith, faith in God and also faith in man.
What is magnificent about humans is when they decide to turn and stand. If they respond with non-violence on principle and hold their ground, they are really magnificent.
Save your skin from the corrosive acids from the mouths of toxic people. Someone who just helped you to speak evil about another person can later help another person to speak evil about you.
Some white people hate black people, and some white people love black people, some black people hate white people, and some black people love white people. So you see it’s not an issue of black and white, it’s an issue of Lovers and Haters.
Nations have come under the control of haters and fools.
If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.
P. J. Abdul Kalam
It is not the young people that degenerate; they are not spoiled till those of mature age are already sunk into corruption.
Charles de Montesquieu
