Advent reminds us that God is present in our lives. It promises that not only do we desire and long for God but God also longs and comes to us. God’s love draws us to wholeness. It is the creative energy of life manifested in all sorts of ways. This desire of God for our responsive love was exemplified by Jesus whose life and words revealed God’s constant love for each of us. Our own fulfillment begins by responding to God’s reconciling love which unites all things.
You wait for us until we are open to you.
We wait for your word to make us receptive.
Today I will try to absorb the fact that God desires my love.
O God, you are my God, for you I long;
For you my soul is thirsting…
For your love is better than life,
My lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life,
In your name I will lift up my hands.
Psalm 63: 2-9
From my point of view, God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it, and a spark of divine light is within each of us.
The starting point of Jesus’ spirituality, the experience of God as Abba included the awareness that God was a loving parent to all human beings. God loves and forgives all men, women and children unconditionally. It was with this conviction
that Jesus approached the people of his time.
The daily bread of grace, without which nothing can be achieved,
is given to the extent to which we ourselves give and forgive.
We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. God is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts.
I am the utter poverty of God. I am God’s emptiness, littleness, nothingness,
lostness. When this is understood, my life in God’s freedom, the self-emptying of God in me is the fullness of grace. A love for God that knows no reason because God is the fullness of grace. A love for God that knows no reason because God is God; a love without measure, a love for God as personal.
The soul must long for God in order to be set aflame by God’s love; but if the soul cannot yet feel this longing, then it must long for the longing. To long for the longing is also from God.
The greatest honor we can give Almighty God is to live gladly because of the knowledge of his love.
Julian of Norwich
We become truly personal by loving God and by loving other humans. In its deepest sense, love is the life, the energy, of the Creator in us.
