The basic attitude of the Christian life is to bear witness to what is worthwhile. The life of Jesus did this. Superficial pieties did not bind his behavior. The gospel stories show a man who in every instance cut through to the truth. “Being Christian is not about meeting requirements for a future reward in an afterlife. Rather, the Christian life is about a relationship with God that transforms life in the present (The Heart of Christianity).
