Each one of us gives a unique, personal expression to the reality we call God. Every one of us is permeated with God’s presence. Why are we locked into a spirituality that looks for God in the heavens in preference to a spirituality that focuses on God within and among us? Our spirituality needs to articulate more clearly the basic relationship between God and ourselves. It should emphasize both the reality of God’s presence with us and our responsibility to allow that presence to emerge and be seen by the way we live.
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
Reflect on your concept of God’s presence. How can your actions reflect your awareness of the presence of God in your life and within the human community?
How can you deepen this awareness?
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16
From my point of view, God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it, and a spark of divine light is within each of us.
God is not a being among other beings, but the infinite Whither that makes possible the very functioning of our human spirit.
Nourishing spirituality means cultivating the inward space, the basis of which all things can be brought together. It means overwhelming deadness and stagnation and living reality in terms of values, inspiration, and symbols of higher meaning.
God has no other hands than ours.
There will never be beings unloved by God, since God is absolute love.
Hans Urs von Balthasar
God is not remote from us. He is at the point of my pen, my (pick) shovel, my paint brush, my (sewing) needle – and my heart and thoughts.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Nothing created has ever been able to fill the heart of man. God alone can fill it infinitely.
Nothing surpasses the full knowledge that God is with you! It’s such a great panacea to issues of life!
Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.
Just remaining quietly in the presence of God, listening to Him, being attentive to Him, requires a lot of courage and know-how.
