Tomorrow is National Hugging Day! Whether you prefer Bear Hugs, Heart-to-Heart Hugs, or Cheek Hugs, embrace your loved ones to show your love and affection.
National Hug Day or National Hugging Day is an annual holiday occurring on January 21. The holiday was founded on January 21, 1986 in Caro, Michigan by Rev. Kevin Zaborney. Zaborney considered that “American society is embarrassed to show feelings in public” and hoped that a National Hugging Day would change that although he thought that his idea would fail. It has since spread to Canada, England, Australia, Germany and Poland.
Hugging is not particular to human beings, as there are many species of animals that engage in similar exchanges of warmth. Scientific studies have demonstrated that hugs are good for us. A hug can lower your blood pressure, trigger the release of healthy hormones (like oxytocin), and relieve stress.
The idea of National Hug Day is to encourage everyone to hug family and friends more often. There is only one way you are supposed to celebrate the holiday – offer a hug to anyone and everyone you want.
May those I love be blessed!
Smile and celebrate the day! Let your family and friends know you love them.
Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
Love is not to be purchased, and affection has no price.
Embrace with tender affection the whole of humanity, especially the poorest, the weakest, the least important.
Affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness there is in our lives.
C. S. Lewis
When I come home, my daughter will run to the door and give me a big hug, and everything that’s happened that day just melts away.
The world is a mess. It seems that life gets harder on a personal level each and every day. Hug and kiss those you love every day. You never know when the tragedies of this world may visit your life.
My beautiful son… I can’t wait to see his face, hug him, and spend time with him.
Everybody needs a hug. It changes your metabolism.
If you’re angry at a loved one, hug that person. And mean it. You may not want to hug – which is all the more reason to do so. It’s hard to stay angry when someone shows they love you, and that’s precisely what happens when we hug each other.
Life is too sweet and too short to express our affection with just our thumbs. Touch is meant for more than a keyboard.
Animals speak with pure affection. It’s important to me to get something going in NY so we can get to be a no-kill city, and give the animals homes and more attention and love.
Hugging has no unpleasant side effects and is all natural. There are no batteries to replace, it’s inflation-proof and non-fattening with no monthly payments. It’s non-taxable, non-polluting, and is, of course, fully refundable.
