July 1

Today begins the second half of the year 2016. Time has passed so quickly! It might be time to reflect on what we have lost that is rightfully ours. From our earliest existence, God has enriched our planet with everything we need to live as full and joyful human beings. Although pain is also a part of life, we are meant to be happy, connected to God and one another and able to celebrate life. It is something we seem to have forgotten as we developed into our present way of living. It might be time to remember that we have a consciousness that seeks more than material comfort and realizes there is a sphere of unity beyond the tangible. “Prayer does not use up artificial energy, burn any fossil fuel, doesn’t pollute.  Neither does song, neither does love, neither does the dance.” (Margaret Mead) It might be time to reflect on what we mean by “progress”.

I will sing to God who is good, whose love is everlasting.

As I reflect on my daily life what causes for celebration do I overlook?  What do I accept as the “norm”? How do I contribute to the dysfunctional norms of our time?

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet God feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will God not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?’ or “What shall we drink?’ or “What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For God knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.
