When we experience grief, sorrow, or pain we long for someone or something to alleviate and soothe our suffering.  The caring understanding words of others, their shared wisdom and the comfort of their affection gives us strength and moves us toward healing.  To break through our own hurt and be able to recognize the same need in others, to seek to console rather than to be consoled is truly selfless love.

“O Divine master grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console…”

Today I will try to break through my own self-protection and desire for sympathy and offer understanding and listening to someone else who is in need of it.
I will try to become sensitized to the needs of others.
