We lift up our hearts, O God, in gratitude for the gift of being Americans. We rejoice with all those who share in the great dream of freedom and dignity for all. We salute those who have sacrificed that we might have the opportunity to bring to fulfillment our many God-given gifts. As we deny all prejudice a place in our hearts, may we also clearly declare our intention to work for the time when all people, regardless of race, religion or sex, will be granted equal dignity and worth. Bless our country that we may praise you, our Source of freedom, the One in whom we place our trust.
Bless our nation, O God, and guide us in right paths.
What makes me grateful to be a citizen of this nation? What distresses me about our country? How can I exercise my citizenship to help correct this?
He loves his country best who strives to make it best.
Robert G. Ingersoll
My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!
Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong.
There is nothing wrong with America that the faith, love of freedom, intelligence, and energy of her citizens cannot cure.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
