We are at the beginning of another summer, a holy time and a sacred place in our journey of life. The Creator, who breathed this world into being is discernible within the harmony of nature. We are grateful for the blazing light of the sun as It warms our earth, nourishes its plants and provides all living things with food. May its warm rays enliven us. May the Creative Spirit draw us into communion uniting all and illuminating the power of love.
We praise the God of Creation who blesses us with the changing of seasons and the wonders of people, all living creatures, and all the earth.
If possible, plan for time this summer to free yourself to be in touch with the beauty and bounty of creation.
The heavens declare the glory of God,
And the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork.
Day pours out the word today,
And night to night imparts knowledge…
God has pitched a tent for the sun,
Which comes forth
And like a giant, joyfully runs the course.
At one end of the heavens it comes forth,
And its course is to the other end.
Nothing escapes its heat.
A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.
St. Francis of Assisi
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
In June, as many as a dozen species may burst their buds on a single day. No man canheed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them.
I am Summer, come to lure you away from your computer… come dance on my fresh grass, dig your toes into my beaches.
There is something deep within us that sobs at endings. Why, God, does everything have to end? Why does all nature grow old? Why do spring and summer have to go?
Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.
