Reflection

I watch this morning
For the light that the darkness has not overcome.
I watch for the fire that was in the beginning
and that burns still in the brilliance of the rising sun.
I watch for the glow of life that gleams in the growing earth
and glistens in sea and sky.
I watch for your light, O God,
in the eyes of every living creature
and in the ever-living flame of my own soul.
If the grace of seeing were mine this day
I would glimpse you in all that lives.
Grant me the grace of seeing this day.
Grant me the grace of seeing.
J. Philip Newell

Prayer

Grant me the grace of seeing.

Action

Reflect on the amazing breadth of creation, of the eons that brought earth to this moment. Reflect on the varieties of life forms and on your own being. Think of the Indescribable Holy Mystery we call God who is the source of all this. Allow yourself to be filled with awe. How does this compel you to act toward the rest  of creation?

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you.  Which of all these does not know that the hand of God has done this?  In God’s hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
Job 12:7-10\

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving

The universe unfolds in God, who fills it completely. Hence, there is a mystical meaning to be found in a leaf, in a mountain trail, in a dewdrop, in a poor person’s face. The ideal is not only to pass from the exterior to the interior to discover the action of God in the soul, but also to discover God in all things.
Pope Francis

As God has not made anything useless in this world, as all beings fulfill obligations or a role in the sublime drama of Creation, I cannot exempt from this duty, and small though it be, I too have a mission to fill, as for example: alleviating the sufferings of my fellowmen.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
Albert Einstein

If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.
Eleonora Duse

My soul can find no staircase to Heaven unless it be through Earth’s loveliness.

There are always flowers for those who want to see them.
Henri Matisse

The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.
Joseph Campbell

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be.
Anne Frank
