We were raised to think that “dedication to God” meant withdrawal from anything but God. Salvation had something to do with separation from people, from the cares of the world and from creation itself. Ironically, it is the spirituality of creation- our affinity, our care for the world, for the rest of creation- that really stretches us to the wholeness of ourselves and to the wholeness of God as well. Only when we see ourselves as part of creation rather than the crown of creation, will we ever be able to come anywhere close to really grasping the greatness of God and God’s gift to us. Only then will we begin to see the glowing face of God everywhere.
Joan Chittister, OSB
Let all creation praise God.
Let go of your ideas of holiness as separation from creation. Look at the beauty of the natural world and its many beings with fresh eyes. Examine the blessing of your relationships with others. What does it mean to you to see the face of God everywhere?
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Right now, we don’t have a very good relation with creation.
I look out of this window and I think this is a cosmos, this is a huge creation, this is one small corner of it. The trees and birds and everything else and I’m part of it. I didn’t ask to be put here, I’ve been lucky in finding myself here.
An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.
Henry David Thoreau
Reading about nature is fine, but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully, he can learn more than what is in books, for they speak with the voice of God.
George Washington Carver
Nature is the art of God.
People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.
I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.
There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story.
We do not see nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our hearts.
There are enough evidences of supreme skill in the structure of the human hand alone to prove the existence, intelligence and benevolence of God in the face of all the sophistry of infidelity.
A. B. Simpson
If created things are seen and handled as gifts of God and as mirrors of His glory, they need not be occasions of idolatry – if our delight in them is always also a delight in their Maker.
