Reflection

It isn’t easy to be serious Christians. There are strong forces around us drawing us away from any sort of committed spiritual life. It is not difficult to meld into the culture, to live comfortably, ignore social and political evil and accept false platitudes. But, the purpose of Lent is not external but internal. It is about turning back to God and reclaiming our own essential integrity. It reminds us to turn around, to come back to our spiritual center, to be true. The call is clear and external compliance is not enough. We know what to do.
“You have been told what is good and what God requires of you, only this;
To act justly
To love tenderly
To walk humbly with your God.”

Prayer

You shall worship God, and God only shall you serve.
Luke 4:8

You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage – pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically – to say ‘no’ to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger ‘yes’ burning inside. The enemy of the ‘best’ is often the ‘good.’
Stephen Covey

A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is.
C.S.Lewis

Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.
W. Clement Stone

Wisdom is knowing what to do next; virtue is doing it.
David Star Jordan

You do not wake up one morning a bad person.  It happens by a thousand tiny surrenders of self-respect to self-interest.
Robert Brault

The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.
Norman Vincent Peale
