To be inspired in the Bible and in early Christianity was to be an open channel for the Holy Spirit- God breathing through you. We all have moments when we feel inspired. When the solution to some problem is given to us, when we are “on”, those moments when we can do no wrong, the wind has caught us up. The essence of inspiration is that it cannot be made to happen. But can we count on those moments? We can certainly invite the spirit as the great chant of the Church says- Veni Sancte Spiritus- come, Holy Spirit. In a way that’s the whole Christian spiritual life in a nutshell, to invite the Holy Spirit whenever we think of it. Pentecost is the perfect time to draw aside and think of simple ways to invite the action of inspiration.
Holidays and Holy Nights
Come Holy Spirit.
Think of the Spirit of God present within you and working through you. Be attuned to moments of inspiration.
There are different workings but the same God
who produces all of them in everyone.
To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit
is given for some benefit.
1 Corinthians 12:3 – 7
Let us renew each day our trust in the workings of the Holy Spirit and open our hearts to the Spirit’s inspirations and gifts.
We have what we seek, it is there all the time, and if we give it time, it will make itself known to us.
There are moments of special grace in our lives, where the experience of the Spirit is brought to consciousness. These are moments of overwhelming abundance: when we are caught up in the exuberance of life in a forest, when we are deeply moved by mutual friendship, when the birth of a child fills us with awe, moments when we know that all is gift.
If we could discover this great mystery of God in us, we would be truly free, and out of this freedom the seeds of our lives would sprout into a new world of justice and peace.
Always, everywhere God is present, and always He seeks to discover Himself to each one.
I love you when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in your church. For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit.
Strong emotions such as passion and bliss are indications that you’re connected to Spirit, or ‘inspired,’ if you will. When you’re inspired, you activate dormant forces, and the abundance you seek in any form comes streaming into your life.
