A review of what we think is most important to us, and what actually seems to be important to us because of what we do every day is a revealing reflection. What do we value as opposed to what we actually do? Is there something that needs realigning? We may realize that there are values we hold, commitments we’ve made, growth we desire, that simply are not on the list of our actual priorities. If what we are hoping to do is to grow in personal freedom based on a growing sense of union with the Mystery we call God, of a clearer vision of who we are, and of a deepening desire to be more closely aligned with the gospel of Jesus, then it is worth doing this personal review carefully.
Enlighten me, O God.
What did this review of my priorities reveal to me? What needs re-aligligning
in my life? How can I make it happen?
For we know that the law is spiritual – but I am unspiritual… For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want – instead, I do what I hate. But if I do what I don’t want, I agree that the law is good. But now it is no longer me doing it, but weakness that lives in me. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very thing I do not want! For I delight in the law of God in my inner being. But I see a different law in my members waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes.
Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
Using the power of decision gives you the capacity to get past any excuse to change any and every part of your life in an instant.
For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
