Reflection

There is in each of us a hunger for the holy. We have a contemplative core that is as much a part of who we are as our other needs and desires. We tend to make it complicated but something so deep in us has to be more simple and attainable if only we take time to pay attention. We find this attentiveness in prayer that is not an exercise but an ongoing dimension of life – a prayer that is not something we do but something we are. It is a conscious awareness of our unity with one another and all creation in God. To ignore this contemplative center and to remain the center of our own lives prevents us from moving beyond ourselves. Then we are not satisfied because there is no space in us for God or anyone else.

Prayer

May I love God with all my being and all neighbors as myself.

Action

Reflect on your inner desires. What deprives you of peace and inner harmony? Try to be more aware of your own place in all of life.
