Reflection

When it seemed there was no hope
I have seen your light in the eyes of a child.
When it seemed there was no joy
I have heard your delight in the voice of a friend.
When it seemed that life was stale
I have smelled the freshness of sunlight on my skin.
When all seemed emptiness
I have touched your presence in the hand of a stranger.
Thanks be to you, O God
For your embodied love.
Open my senses to your presence
that I may love you and care for you in all things.
J. Philip Newell

Prayer

May I see God in the ordinary things of life.

Action

Be aware of God’s presence in the ordinary things of life. Notice the sacred in the daily.

And you shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and God’s love is perfected in us.
1 John 4:12

We need to find God, and God cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.
Mother Teresa

If God can work through me, God can work through anyone.
Francis of Assisi

The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me; my eye and God’s eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love.
Meister Eckhart

The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled. Each evening we see the sun set we know that the earth is turning away from it. Yet the knowledge, the explanation, never quite fits the sight.
John Berger

We never grow closer to God when we just live life. It takes deliberate pursuit and attentiveness.
Francis Chan
