The Sisters of St. Joseph’s Third Annual Sprint into Spring 5K Fun Run/Walk was a tremendous success, bringing together over 550 participants and raising more than $20,000 in support of the Garden Ministry.
The day was beautiful, filled with community spirit and purpose as walkers and runners of all ages came out to celebrate health, fellowship, and environmental stewardship.
“This year’s event was the biggest yet, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for the Sisters’ mission and the vital work of the Garden Ministry, which promotes sustainable gardening, food security, and environmental education in underserved communities,” shared Jorge DeJesus, Director of Mission Advancement.
From early morning Zumba warm-ups to the final steps across the finish line, the energy was inspiring. Many families, local organizations, and school groups joined together to walk or run for a cause, making this a true community event.
“We thank you all for coming today, and we pray to our wondeful, gracious, powerful God for bringing us together today,” S. Tesa Fitzgerald, CSJ, president of the Sisters of St. Joseph, said. “We give thanks for the community here gathering — the community that we are in the great love of God and the dear neighbor.”
After the run, celebrations continued with a bouncy house, face painting, and food. The event also brought out eight furry friends from Last Chance Animal Rescue, all of whom were available for adoption — and one of which found a home!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our volunteers, sponsors, and all who participated. Special thanks also to all the local elected officials, including Senator Monica Martinez — who has given more than $150,000 toward the Garden Ministry — and Suffolk County Legislator Jason Richberg, who took the time out of their day to stop by and show their love and support for the Sisters of St. Joseph and their many ministries.
All your support helps the Garden Ministry continue to plant seeds of hope, healing, and growth.
